Since 2007, Jolanda Jansen & Myrthe Rootsaert work together on projects on location and since 2014 they work together on video art works. These creations arise from a spontaneous creative process.

Their movies are partly inspired by Facebook videos in which the private shamelessly is being exhibited. They recycle materials from offices and studio buildings as in the today’s conscious recycling society. They research the contrast between the media-concept of the feminine body and the impersonal industrial materials. The theme that they touch here is the blurring of the boundaries between men and women issues. They are women who like to work with tough material .

By using everyday materials in a totally different way than they are intended, Crutches creates a unique combination with it’s own style. The style is characterized by a shameless playfulness in a surreal environment. Within this, they move without fear of imperfection and the tendency to escape from reality. Their work is unpretentious so this creates space for a lot of creative freedom. Situations are recognizable weird enough. Just like people search on Facebook for recognition and acknowledgment. During the creative process, they are aware of the total picture that they are creating.
